Société Générale has appointed Alvaro Huete as its country head for Singapore and Southeast Asia to succeed Raphael Cheminat, who will be assuming other responsibilities within the group.

Huete, based in Singapore, will oversee the global banking and investor solutions ( GBIS ) business activities across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. He will report directly to Jerome Niddam, chief executive officer for Asia-Pacific and will join the firm’s Asia-Pacific management committee.

With 28 years of experience at the bank, Huete, the bank notes, has a strong understanding of its clients’ businesses and a deep expertise in financing and advisory to meet their needs. He will play an instrumental role in further developing the GBIS business in Singapore and in continuing to deliver value-added advisory and financial solutions to clients across Southeast Asia.

Alvaro joined the bank in 1997 as head of structured finance in Spain. After holding various leadership roles, he relocated to London in 2007 as deputy head of global syndicate, becoming global head in 2010. In 2015, he was appointed deputy head and subsequently head of global finance for the United Kingdom. In 2019, he moved to Paris as deputy head of global banking and advisory. In 2024, alongside his former responsibilities, Huete was appointed supervisor of GBIS for countries in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region for Société Générale Group. He has been a member of the bank’s management committee since 2016. Before joining the bank, he held positions at Nomura and Banco Urquijo.
